ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 47, CA — Today, on the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, Christy Holstege speaks out against the ruling and reaffirms her commitment to reproductive rights and freedoms. The decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade and ended the constitutional right to safe and legal abortion, has had profound and far-reaching consequences for women and families across the nation.

“Today marks a dark day in our nation's history—when conservative extremists on the Supreme Court stripped away the nationally guaranteed right to safe and legal abortion. Reproductive decisions belong between a patient and their doctor, not politicians. As someone currently going through IVF, I am horrified by the rhetoric being used around this issue to politicize a private decision and an essential part of healthcare. While we are fortunate to live in California where reproductive freedom is guaranteed in our state Constitution, all of us deserve the freedom to make our reproductive choices without fear or interference. The fight for reproductive rights and reproductive freedom is at the core of who I am and what I stand for. It is why I went to law school and why I am in public office. This day I am reminded that the fight is not over until all Americans have the freedom we enjoy in the Golden State, and I will carry on that fight in the Assembly,” said Holstege in her official statement.

Christy Holstege’s dedication to reproductive rights has been a defining feature of her career and personal life. From her early beginnings as an intern at Planned Parenthood Mar Monte at the age of 15, Christy has been a steadfast advocate for reproductive justice. Her commitment deepened through her legal education, where she founded Stanford Law Students for Reproductive Justice and led significant campaigns like “No on Prop 4.” After law school, Christy founded a legal aid clinic in Coachella Valley, providing essential support to survivors of domestic violence and advocating for reproductive justice. Her legal and advocacy work has consistently focused on ensuring access to safe and legal reproductive healthcare for all.
