ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 47, CA — Today, on the 9th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, Christy Holstege issued the following statement in commemoration of the milestone case in the fight for equality and justice for the LGBTQ+ community:

"As someone who has been deeply involved in advancing LGBTQ+ rights, this decision holds a special place in my heart. It not only recognized the love and commitment of same-sex couples but also strengthened the fabric of our nation by promoting social equality for all families. As we reflect on this momentous ruling, I remain committed to continuing the fight for equality and opportunity for every member of the LGTBQ+ community and all Americans.”

Christy Holstege’s leadership in Palm Springs, including her historic tenure as the first openly bisexual mayor in the nation and her advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community, underscores her dedication to equality and justice. During her time on City Council, she secured millions in funding for local LGBTQ+ organizations such as the Desert AIDS Project, the LGBTQ Center of the Desert, and the L-Fund, which provide essential services ranging from healthcare to housing assistance. Holstege has been a staunch advocate for mental health services, homelessness prevention, and ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all. Her candidacy for State Assembly aims to continue this vital work on a larger scale, promoting policies that support marginalized communities and advance justice throughout California.
