ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 47, CA — Today, Christy Holstege honors Gun Violence Awareness Day, kicking off Wear Orange Weekend in recognition of gun violence survivors and the urgent need for comprehensive gun safety reforms. This event is a call to action, emphasizing the importance of addressing the epidemic of gun violence that affects communities across California and the nation. In addition to her nod of approval from Moms Demand Action, Christy is endorsed by Safer California and the Palm Springs Police Officers Association– underscoring her position as the strongest public safety candidate in the race.

"I am honored to receive the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction. Our communities deserve leaders who will stand up to the gun lobby and fight tirelessly for common-sense gun safety measures," said Christy Holstege. "Every day that passes without action is another day that lives are at risk. We owe it to our children and families to enact reforms that will save lives and make our neighborhoods safer. Greg Wallis's record on gun safety is unacceptable, and our community deserves better."

Incumbent Republican Greg Wallis’s Abysmal Gun Safety Record:

In her time in Palm Springs leadership, Christy Holstege has taken decisive steps to enhance gun control and overall community safety. She has been a vocal advocate for tightening gun laws, supporting bans on high-capacity magazines, expanding background checks, and enacting firearms prohibitions for those deemed unsafe by courts. Recognizing the importance of holistic safety measures, she has spearheaded initiatives to integrate mental health experts, social workers, and addiction specialists into community responses, particularly for 911 calls related to homelessness and mental health crises. These actions are part of her broader commitment to building safer communities through smart, effective policy, and strong working relationships with local law enforcement.

The closely watched seat remains a top pickup priority for California Assembly Democrats after Holstege lost to her GOP opponent by just 85 votes in 2022, in one of the closest races in California legislative history. Incumbent Republican Assemblymember Greg Wallis currently holds one of the most endangered seats in Sacramento. The district boasts a solid 6.4% Democratic voter registration advantage, a figure that's projected to swell to an imposing 10-12% by the time November 2024 rolls around.
