ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 47, CA — Democratic candidate Christy Holstege emerged victorious in last night's primary election, claiming the top spot and solidifying her position as the frontrunner in Assembly District 47. From advocating for affordable healthcare and education to fighting for environmental protection and public safety, Christy’s unwavering commitment to the people has garnered widespread enthusiasm and trust.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who supported me in the primary election this week– your belief in our vision fuels this movement,’ said Christy Holstege. “I am ready to fight for you in Sacramento – to protect healthcare, combat the affordability crisis, address our climate emergency, secure our fair share of state resources, and work towards building a sustainable and resilient future for our region.”

Looking ahead to the November general election, Holstege remains optimistic and energized. With a strong foundation of grassroots support and a clear vision for a brighter future, she is prepared to carry the momentum forward and secure victory against her Republican opponent. Holstege's campaign is focused on building bridges, uniting the community, and delivering real results for all Californians.

“Christy's campaign reflects the energy and determination needed to drive progress into the region and make a lasting impact on her community,” said California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas. “Her unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of the people of California, combined with her innovative thinking and resolute leadership, makes her campaign a force to be reckoned with.”

Christy Holstege is a civil rights attorney, mother, community leader, former mayor, and city councilmember. A trailblazing candidate, Christy shattered glass ceilings as Palm Springs’ first-ever female mayor, first millennial mayor, and the first openly bisexual mayor elected in the United States. With an impressive track record of achievement, Christy is poised to become the next Assemblymember from District 47.

As Mayor of Palm Springs, Christy enacted strong worker protections, allocated millions of dollars for small businesses pandemic relief, expanded healthcare and other social services, and worked to address climate change. She also led the City’s homelessness and housing crisis response by securing millions of dollars in state funding to build the first and only homeless navigation center in the region, provide wraparound services and crisis assistance for those experiencing homelessness, permanently house over 200 formerly homeless people, and build the first affordable housing developments in the city in over a decade.

Christy is endorsed by Governor Gavin Newsom, the California Democratic Party, and over 100 labor unions, democratic groups, and state and local elected officials. The closely watched seat remains a top pickup priority for California Assembly Democrats after Holstege lost to her GOP opponent by just 85 votes in 2022, in one of the closest races in California legislative history. Incumbent Republican Assemblymember Greg Wallis currently holds one of the most endangered seats in Sacramento. Christy’s campaign continues to out-raise and out-work her Republican opponent, garnering high-profile endorsements and significant local grassroots support.
