ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 47, CA —
In a race that's shaping up to be one of the most exciting in California, Christy Holstege emerges as the front-runner for Assembly District 47. Known for her relentless advocacy, proven electoral success, and compelling personal story, Christy is not just leading – she's setting the pace in a district that heavily favors her candidacy in 2024.
"Christy Holstege is the leader AD47 needs. Her proven track record, deep community roots, and real commitment to working families make her the clear choice for Assembly District 47,"
said Amelia Matier, campaign spokesperson. "With our energized volunteers and strong community backing, we are ready to deliver a decisive victory in November."
A Strong Candidate with a Compelling Personal Story Christy has a proven track record, winning multiple local office elections and nearly securing a State Assembly seat in 2022 with the closest margin in California since 1994. She enters the 2024 race with high name recognition and a robust network of grassroots support across Riverside and San Bernardino counties. As a former Mayor and Councilmember, a civil rights attorney, a successful businesswoman, and a longtime community leader, Christy's deep local roots and impressive credentials make her a standout candidate.
An Endangered Opponent Greg Wallis, the incumbent Republican, is facing significant challenges this election season. He recorded the poorest showing among incumbent Republicans in the Assembly, with a perilously narrow lead over Democrat Christy Holstege in the March Primary. The total number of Democratic votes cast in the AD47 primary amounted to over 50% of the electorate, highlighting the district's Democratic tilt.
Voter Turnout Heavily Favors Christy Democrats currently hold a 6.4% registration advantage over Republicans in AD47, a number likely to grow. Turnout is expected to increase from 56% in 2022 to 82%-85% in 2024. Christy has demonstrated significant strength in Riverside County, the most populous part of the district and a crucial battleground for votes. Riverside County is home to 77% of the district's voters, and Christy's commanding lead in the region underscores her strong appeal.
Christy Dominates the Campaign Fundraising Race Christy Holstege has a significant financial advantage in the 2024 race, outpacing incumbent Greg Wallis in both total fundraising and available cash-on-hand. To date, Christy has raised almost $1.2 million, compared to Wallis's $788,000. This financial edge allows Christy's campaign to engage more effectively with voters and swiftly respond to changing dynamics.
Endorsed by California’s Most Trusted Leaders Christy Holstege's campaign is bolstered by endorsements from top California leaders, including Governor Gavin Newsom, Attorney General Rob Bonta, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Southwest. Additionally, she has the support of over 75 state and local leaders and more than fifty labor unions, including the California Teachers Association, CAL-FIRE, and the California Labor Federation.
The closely watched seat remains a top pickup priority for California Assembly Democrats after Holstege lost to her GOP opponent by just 85 votes in 2022, in one of the closest races in California legislative history. Incumbent Republican Assemblymember Greg Wallis currently holds one of the most endangered seats in Sacramento. The district boasts a solid 6.4% Democratic voter registration advantage, a figure that's projected to swell to an imposing 10-12% by the time November 2024 rolls around.
