ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 47, CA — Today, the United Farm Workers of America endorsed Christy Holstege to serve as the next Assemblymember from District 47. In Palm Springs, Christy's leadership led to the passage of a groundbreaking Community Workforce Agreement, the implementation of hero pay for essential workers, and the establishment of some of the most robust worker protections in the state. The endorsement from the historic UFW labor union speaks to Christy’s unwavering commitment to the rights and well-being of workers.

“I am honored to earn the endorsement of the United Farm Workers of America,” said Christy Holstege. “We need leaders in Sacramento who understand the challenges that shape the lives of our hardworking men and women. As a Mayor, City Councilmember, workers-rights attorney and mother— I've had the privilege of standing alongside the working families in the fight for a California where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. I am ready to lead in the State Assembly and ensure hard work is rewarded with dignity and respect.”

Started in the early 1960s by Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, Larry Itliong, and other organizers, the United Farm Workers of America stands as the country's first and largest lasting union for farm workers. The UFW remains actively involved in key agricultural sectors, primarily in California. Their endorsement of Christy Holstege highlights her as the candidate best suited to champion the needs and aspirations of the hardworking individuals in Assembly District 47.

The announcement comes on the heels of endorsements from The California Labor Federation, Governor Gavin Newsom, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, and the California Democratic Party. The closely watched seat remains a top pickup priority for California Assembly Democrats after Holstege lost to her GOP opponent by just 85 votes in 2022, in one of the closest races in California legislative history. Incumbent Republican Assemblymember Greg Wallis currently holds one of the most endangered seats in Sacramento. Christy’s campaign continues to out-raise and out-work her Republican opponent, garnering high-profile endorsements and significant local grassroots support.
